Howdy!
I am an 8.5 year old in New Eden and I've never done much. I was purchased on June 27th, 2012 legally via the EVE Forums Character Bizarre, by Doctor Caldari for 3 Billion ISK;
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=125925
For the next 1.5 years while I become trained, I will describe the entire process here. Advice is welcome of course and will become a valuable part of the experience.
I started out like this; http://tinypic.com/r/14vpouq/6 http://tinypic.com/r/303jo90/6
My API is now updated and you can watch me grow here;

Let's see how good I can become in just 18 months before being a Decade old.

June 30th, 2012 I flew to Jita, picked up a shuttle and then went to Amsen and installed a Medical Clone that saves up to 32m skill points at the cost of 3 million ISK.
Picking up ALL skill books at Amsen.

July 2nd, 2012
- Selected 1st Frigate, Republic Fleet Firetail $14m @ Jita. So now I'm faster by a bit and stylish in my Faction Frigate.
- Installed (2) Implants; Limited Memory Augmentation - Beta (+2 Memory) Limited Cybernetic Subprocessor - Beta (+2 Intelligence) Cost at Jita, just under $2 million ISK.
Memory and intelligence are the primary and secondary attributes of training Science & Cybernetics up to L5. As I have no way of creating a jump clone without joining a corporation, these two implants will be destroyed in two weeks when a full L5 Improved implant set is plugged is.
- 24 more skills injected.
So, that should be enough excitement for the next few weeks. Stay tuned to find out what I start to train first, once I can learn as fast as possible. (I do already know....) :)

Can't speak for the other 99,999 so perhaps I missed that thread.
I had no idea that there were that many 2003 Characters that had openly documented their training. Sigh. Ah well, I'll do it again then without reading what all those people said.
The nice thing is that so far, no one has disputed my Training procedure.
Thank you!

Thank you. That is exactly what is planned. All skills injected at current are part of the overall goals, which is why you won't find any corporate skills. To train properly there's really not much of a point to go into much detail until the L5 implants are installed. Then it's game on. So glad we don't have learning skills anymore, as that would be very boring. Short term directed goals will begin in about two weeks.

Jacob Holland wrote:Could be an interesting project.
You are all over the place with the training though (or at least the injecting), which is a little disappointing, what is the goal at the moment?
It might be quite interesting to set short term, directed goals to train towards (eg: make the character pay (PI or whatever), Interceptors...etc.). It might give people a bit more of an insight into the logic of training an alt and might give you a better sense of progress.

Chapter 2 : Quite The Socialite
Okay so now that I have my L5 Improved Implant set to train as fast as possible, it's time to move in a direction.
My Eve Sheet and Skill Training
I will become a Research Scientist in order to create passive ISK income via Datacore harvesting. As this will involve churning L3 Security and L4 Distribution missions to drive my standings up with the Research Corporation, first order of business will be becoming quite the -Elite- Socialite.
Before ever running any missions (or even having ships to run them), I am now training;
Social L5 Connections L5 (In order to mostly skip having to do many L1 or L2 missions at all) Diplomacy L5 (So that angering other Factions during non-selective adverse security missions will never much matter) Distribution Connections L5 (To gain the most LP or Loyalty Points possible from Distribution Missions) Fast Talk L5 (To gain the quickest Security Status increases from Concord when running Security Missions) Negotiation L5 (To be paid as much ISK as possible when running missions) Security Connections L5 (To gain the most LP or Loyalty Points possible from Security Missions)
The Social skills that I am not training are);
Criminal Connections (Planned Agents are not) Mining Connections (Have no plans on mining)
This will take about 45 days.
Next will be building a L3 solo 100% perfect Tier II Passive Drake and skills, a two step process that will quickly create one using Factional components, begin missions and then round out with a 100% perfect Tier II non factional. That's gonna take a few months and looking forward to it, especially the Factional Tier II style Meta 6-ish Drake (Using reasonably priced yet quite uncommon Factional parts).
See Ya'll in about 6 weeks for Chapter 3 : The Funcional Factional Drake (Solo L3 PVE)

My training Queue
And I am back 4 million skill points later. While still about three weeks out from L5 maxing all of my Social skills from the previous Chapter "Quite the Socialite", yesterday I decided that this is enough sitting around in Jita 4-4 and twiddling my thumbs. I wanna fly. After all it's been almost 9 years since I've caught the cold scent of space. So in less than 24 hours I have trained up the very minimum requirements for a Drake;
Shield Upgrades L1 Energy Grid Upgrades L1 Battlecruisers L2 Caldari Cruiser L3 Spaceship Command L4 Afterburner L4 (Optional)
Purchased my Drake at Jita for 45m ISK and since being able to rig it is still 5 hours away, I'm about to knock out some of the only L1 and L2 missions I will ever do in my life, solo with no rigs. Here is my fit and the next Chapter;
===================================================
Chapter 3 : The Funcional Factional Drake (Solo L3 PVE)
So here it is as promised;
1 - Drake (45m ISK @ Jita) 7 - 'Undertaker' Heavy Missile Launchers (Storyline) (21m ISK each @ Jita)
1 - Afterburner II (Trained L4 - Optional) (1.3m ISK @ Jita) 1 - Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender (31m ISK @ Jita)
2 - Alpha Reactor Shield Power Relay (18m ISK each @ Jita) 2 - Domination Ballistic Control System (46m ISK each @ Jita) 1 - 'Whiskey' Explosive Deflection Amplifier (36m ISK @ Jita) 1 - 'Cactus' Modified Kinetic Deflection Amplifier (28m ISK @ Jita) 1 - Caldari Navy Thermic Dissipation Amplifier (31m ISK @ Jita) 1 - 'Prospector" EM Ward Amplifier (34m ISK @ Jita)
Other more affordable options are available. And now I will knock out the only L1 and L2 Security missions ever in my life. Solo.
Stay tuned tfor the next Chapter ~ Chapter 4 - Good Head ~ The Drake Implant Set.
Cheers.

Thank you for all the "Likes".
Quick update. As my goal is to obtain 4 L4 Research agents, yesterday I began Security missions with my shiny new Drake to drive up my Standings up as quickly as possible. Here is what I have learned.
By training my Social skills up to L5 (Particularly Connections) before ever running a mission, here are the amount of missions I had to complete before opening up access to L3 Security agents. I picked Core Completion as they are of my race;
L1 Missions required - 0 L2 Missions required - 18 Storyline Missions required - 1
So in just two sessions I am now soloing L3 Security Missions to drive my Standings up as fast as possible. Took less than 5 hours of piloting to complete. I have never run an L1 mission in my life and will never run an L2 again.
The Drake fit described is doing just fine at Solo L3 Security.
Security Status Progress (I love charts!)
Will update on the "Drake Implant Set" soon.

Chapter 4 - Good in the Head ~ The Drake Implant Set
Using this implant set I have managed to keep learning as fast as possible while enhancing my ability to solo L3 Security Missions in my not so perfect yet Drake. It took under 30 L3 Security missions, with Connections L5 to raise my standings to 5.03 with Core Complexion. This opens up my access to (4) L4 R&D agents in High Sec space. Stay tuned for the next Chapter, Passive ISK / Datacore Harvesting.
The Drake Implant Set;
Ocular Filter - Improved Slot 1
Memory Augmentation - Improved Slot 2
Neural Boost - Improved Slot 3
Cybernetic Subprocessor - Improved Slot 4
Social Adaption Ship - Improved Slot 5
Eifyr and Co. 'Rogue' Warp Drive Speed WS-615 Slot 6 - 15% Warp Speed Bonus (140m ISK @ Jita)
Zainou 'Snapshot' Heavy Missiles HM-705 Slot 7 - 5% Damage Bonus
Zainou 'Deadeye' Guided Missile Precision GP-805 Slot 8 - -5% Explosion Radius Bonus

Chapter 5 ~ Passive ISK / Research / Datacore Harvesting
Now that Standings with Core Complexion (Minmatar, like me) are nearing 6.0, I'm gonna keep running L3 Security Missions to get that Standing above 8.0 for Jump Clones. In the meantime, I am going to establish (4) L4 R&D Agents. The area of Research I have selected will be Electronic Engineering. Those datacores current sell at Jita for almost 300,000 ISK each.
Skills now training and required are;
SCIENCE L5 ELECTRONICS L5 That will allow me to train; ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING up to L5
In order to have (4) agents I will also train up; RESEARCH L5 LABORATORY OPERATION L5 That will allow me to train; RESEARCH PROJECT MANAGEMENT L3 that will allow for (4) L4 agents.
This will take about 5 weeks. If I had done this when born almost 9 years ago, I would have made over 25 Billion ISK by doing nothing more.
Stay tuned for Chapter 6 ~ Learning to Fly (Navigation perfection for my future).

That great institution where people actually can learn something - EVE University - has a nice list of corporations with and without jump clone facilities. (Pro Tip: check where CreoDron is on that list..)
You are correct that I only have 3 jump clones. Creodron has (3) L4 Research Agents and one is in 0.3 space, one jump from High Sec. And I don't need jump clones from them, 4 should be plenty enough. I had actually tried to install a 4th only to realize that I have Infomorph at L3 so that ability is 18 hours out. And like a lot of things EVE it's on the to do later list.
Thank you for the suggestion of EVE University. In fact I was reading the application process just yesterday and left the tab open to remember to look into that. Once I can fly something decent instead of a patched together L3 Drake, I think that would be a very interesting path to take. Thank you for the suggestion.

It seems to me this is not an educational project, but an exercise in creative writing.
Certainly it would be best to actually look at my stats before stating something. As it turns out I have -0- Jump Clones. I am training 5 characters and did get this one confused with another that I recently installed jump clones for. Yes, Core Complexion does not offer jump clones. It's a moot point as I have no use for them yet.
As far as grinding up to 8.2 it was not for jump clones. In order to access the (3) L4 R&D Agents that Research Electronic Engineering you must have 5.0+ standings and 8.2 just so happens to be where I stopped running L3 missions for them.
So, excellent corrections on your part, thank you.

Okay, so let's do the Jump Clone thing, why not?
First of all, I have never claimed to be perfect and making mistakes is a great way to learn.
1) In Post #15 in stating that 8.0+ Security Status would allow me Jump Clones with Core Complexion, that should have raised a red flag at the time as Core Complexion does not have Jump Clone Medical services. Which appears to be typical of Corporations that specialize in Research. The primary intention of training up as high as possible with Core Complexion is as stated ; "Chapter 5 ~ Passive ISK / Research / Datacore Harvesting"
Now as I am waiting for these skills to finish to install (6) L4 Research Agents, (3) with Core Complexion, (3) with CreoDron (Standings already in place to do so), what a great idea to just churn L3 missions for Jump Clones.
As those skills complete, I am now churning L3 Security Missions for Minmatar (my race) Corp Republic Security Services, up to 8.0+. While I have no plans for jump clones and have not mentioned them other than a quickly typed mistake, hey why not? This will also increase my standings with the Minmatar Republic with the Storyline missions that will come along.
Thank you for the constructive criticism, good job finding the errors, and I'll be back to regular Chapter updates soon.

There's some truth here. It is actually rewarding to have learned EVE enough to train an old legacy character and blog about it thus giving ideas to new players. So far no one has been that critical of my training choices, which would indicate that they are right. Not perfect, but good. Yeah.
Anyone whom takes the time to write about something (publicly for over a year), break it down into chapters (thus writing an online book) should feel some reward, as without interest it would be a job. The fact that you are reading this shows that you share an interest in reading something specialized or you would be reading the news written by people paid to write, as opposed to someone wanting to for whatever reason.
31 People have liked what I have written and (3) have messaged privately telling me that they are following the same plan and thank yous for giving them something fun to do in EVE. I do remember almost not ever loading EVE again cause I could not find anything interesting to do. So this is interesting to at least myself and some others.
Do you have any advice about how to train better or select a direction?
Adding your 1st +Like for some accuracy.
Cheers.

Thanks for the support here and in private. Have been churning some very long skills and will continue to blog my training through the end of 2013. Some updates;
~ Chapter 1 : New Beginnings - Complete ~ Chapter 2 : Quite The Socialite - Complete - The remaining Social skill I want at L5, Fast Talk is still 11 days out. Will top it off a few days at a time here and there. ~ Chapter 3 : The Funcional Factional Drake (Solo L3 PVE) - Complete ~ Chapter 4 : Good in the Head ~ The Drake Implant Set - Complete ~ Chapter 5 : Passive ISK / Research / Datacore Harvesting - Complete - Said Drake was perfect with no losses to churn up standings with Core Complexion & CreoDron for (5) L4 Research Agents in the field of Electronic Engineering; Research Project. Adding a 6th R&D Agent will require Research Project Management L5, which is 35 days away. Will fill it in over time.
As it's not really much fun to just train a toon and never pilot a ship, I did about 75 Solo L3 Security Missions for Republic Security Services bringing my standings up to 8.10. This allows me install Jump Clones with them, of which I now have (3). ;) Jump Clones

Chapter 6 : Balancing for Battlecruiser & Destroyer Balancing
In March 2012 it was revealed that the Generic Destroyers and Battlecruisers skills give too broad of an advantage as they are not specific to race and they will be removed and replaced with 4 race specific skills. Let's say you have these at LX and you have that skill for every race at present. Without going into that entire complex debate it appears as if having a certain set of skills will result in a 120ish day training and from 8-12m SP jump, free in early 2013, possibly with the January main update of Retribution.
I have done a remap today that puts my levels at Perception and Willpower at 29. Have done it will all main toons. And will train this;
Battlecruisers L5 Destroyers L5
Amarr Frigate L4 (Prerequisite for Amarr Cruiser) Amarr Cruiser L3 Caldari Frigate L4 (Prerequisite for Caldari Cruiser) Caldari Cruiser L3 Gallente Frigate L4 (Prerequisite for Gallente Cruiser) Gallente Cruiser L3 Minmatar Frigate L4 (Prerequisite for Minmatar Cruiser) Minmatar Cruiser L3
And then after changeover bam, you end up with all (8) New skills and millions of skill points free;
Amarr Battlecruiser L5 Caldari Battlecruiser L5 Gallente Battlecruiser L5 Minmatar Battlecruiser L5 Amarr Destroyer L5 Caldari Destroyer L5 Gallente Destroyer L5 Minmatar Destroyer L5
A nice way to end the year and go into the holidays with 30+ days of skills. Perfect for vacation. Regardless if the update is not that fast (I predict summer 2013), just keep the same remap and L5 max out all missile skills to L5 as they all rely on Perception and Willpower at 29.
Next chapter in January 2013.
Happy Holidays and Happy Skill Training.

Answer : Yes, extensive.
- Oswald XIII - "What is the difference between your 2003 born character that's been inactive for 10 years and one that's been started today other than some tweaks, free sp, and holiday gifts?"
Answer: 2003 accounts are rare, that's why they sell for small billions. The difference is in the birthdate and age of the toon.
Free SP & Holiday gifts? Where? I always miss those.
- Oswald XIII - "Aren't you just doing a newb tutorial?["

Chapter 6 : Learning to Fly ~ Navigation
My Training Queue
In the not too distant past a Capsuleer was at a disadvantage when learning to learn. Indeed, the Universities required skill training with the books of learning. As New Eden advanced with all of it's flaws the Universities eliminated this requirement and even refunded learning skills. All books of learning were destroyed. Had that not happened, many would have lost interest in the educational system itself.
And now to the first new chapter of 2013;
Chapter 6 : Learning to Fly ~ Navigation ===============================
Unless you plan on just sitting in station for any odd reason, consider this chapter to improve your life.
To pilot a ship in New Eden certainly anyone wants to be the best. For me to pilot the "Perfect Drake" I have to be the best. The nice thing about navigational skills is that like learning was, they stick with you for life in a very important manner. While it's way to easy when training to get wrapped up in the mind-frame of "Just L5 Everything!", Navigation is close to that important, but here's how to drop a month off from being "perfect" in a Drake., while all but one skill will make you the best (excluding implants)
I am now training (and will finish in 3 weeks);
NAVIGATION
Acceleration Control L5 - Provides a 25% bonus to speed when using MicroWarpDrives and Afterburners. Makes me fast as all pros.
Afterburner L5 - Provides a 25% reduction to Afterburner duration (you slow down faster and more accurate) and a 50% reduction of CPU use of the Afterburner. Excellent skill for life.
Evasive Maneuvering L5 - 25% Improved ship agility (turning, sweeping) with every ship you fly for the rest of your life. Can be trivially improved more with implants.
Fuel Conservation L5 - 50% reduction in Capacitor need for Afterburners. As the "Perfect Drake" will use an Afterburner II, this L5 is a must.
High Speed Maneuvering L(4) 20% reduction in ship capacitor use of a MicroWarpDrive. As "The Perfect Drake" will be using an Afterburner instead, training this skill to L4 instead of L5 will save you 20 days, and will only make you 5% slower than the experts only when using a MicroWarpDrive. Proof of no need to just L5 everything.
Navigation L5 - The Best
Warp Drive Operation L5 - 50% reduction of capacitor need to start warp, a skill that works with every ship you will ever pilot.
End Chapter 6 =============================================
Thank you for all of the likes , kind compliments and private messages.
The next chapter planned is "The Need For Speed" which will go into the fastest ships in New Eden, Interceptors and the whole training plan has been leading up to that with side benefits.
Another planned chapter is "Hauling Assets" which will address how to move as much freight volume as fast as possible according to value (Blockade Runners and Freighters).
And a sneak peek at what to look for and why to subscribe to this thread; A Bonus Chapter is planned that will be titled "Bribing Your Way To The Top!" that will reveal how to simply purchase Corporate standings.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bonus Chapter ~ Buying Your Way To The Top! Bribery 101 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BOND 007 (Ironically) reveals an agent that can be bribed
Training skills suggested;
TRADE L4 0r L5 (Allows you to enter multiple Market Buy and Sell Orders) BROKER RELATIONS L5 (Reduces your Market fees which are also determined by your Standings)
Took a short trip out to Otitoh, warped over to the Devil's Dig Site and started a conversation with an agent just floating idle, Taru Kubona. You don't have to have any positive Caldari standings, they just can't be below 0.00. Mr. Kubona works for the Mercantile Club. And apparently this gentleman has a rabid desire for Talocan Mechanical Gears. He asked me for (4) of them under the guise of a "Security Mission", silently took what was in my cargohold and my mission was completed, with a nice Security Status increase from Calari's Mercantile Club. So I checked to see if he would do it again. He did.
So I went and used the TRADE skills to set up some Market Buy orders to get as many of these Talocan Mechanical Gears as I could. Bought about 600 or so of them at about 200000 ISK each, and went and talked to Mr. Kubona again.
In less than a few minutes of requesting his sole mission, accepting it, and completing it (according to him), I racked my rankings up with Mercantile Club to over 8.0. As a reward I selected one of their many Jump Clone facilities and installed a shiny new Jump Clone.
While I have been in an NPC now for 9 years and 7 days, it took less than 10 minutes to go from 0.00 to 8.17 Standings with Mercantile Club / Caldari space.
New Jump Clone in Less than 10 minutes
Next New Chapter will be "The Need for Speed" that will address Interceptors and Blockade Runners. The Fastest Ships in EVE.
Cheers,
The next Chapter "The Need for Speed" will be out shortly. Have decided to train up Interceptors to L5 due to the summer of 2013 ship rebalancing. While nothing is published to state so, believe that Interceptors will be split into 4 racial classes in June. So just a few more weeks to get caught up, and next training chapter will be out.
======================================== Chapter 8 ~ The Need For Speed ========================================
Since the beginning of time man has been obsessed with moving fast. From 17.0 (km/h) with the first Earth Moon Rover, to 17,500 mph with the first Earth Space Shuttle, by rail, air, sea or space there has always been a desire even when lacking a justifiable need. In New Eden a common question by new Capsuleers has always been "What is the fastest ship?" And this is indeed one of them.
If you've been following along with my skill training, the only thing you will need to train up now would be the Interceptor skill. L4 is normally where people stop but I went through with L5. The ship I picked was my Minmatar Racial Interceptor, The Claw. And without putting a huge amount of thought into it I've tossed this little greased lightning monster together, inexpensively for my own needs in about 10 minutes;
CLAW Rigs - Small Ancillary Current Router I (x2) Low; Overdrive Injector System II Nanofiber Internal Structure II (x2) Expanded Cargohold II
Mid; 1mn Afterburner II
High; Salvager I
Cap Stable.
As this is a discussion of skill training and not a debate on ship fittings, I choose this fit for when I need to move something small and expensive, fast. Thus "The Need for Speed". It has no weapons as I won't be firing on anyone. The salvager is in place for those lucky times when a faction frigate or BC gets popped and I can be the first one to it, possibly scoring some high end rigs or fittings (this has happened a good number of times and speed to the wreck was everything). Ship has no upgraded defenses for the simple fact that if anyone has the right to fire on you in something like this, you're already dead. And better have an up to date medical clone. :)
================================== Chapter 9 Coming Soon ~ Hauling Assets! ==================================
My how time flies in New Eden? For those of you following this skill training book, have no fear; the newest chapter is coming soon.
If you have been following along and have all Navigational skills maxed as per Chapter 8 - The Need for Speed, this is gonna be relatively easy. What we will do is equip a ship with a cloaking device, a fast Industrial ship mind you, providing the ability to move more than the limited cargo hold of an Interceptor, and even into and out of low security space.
Suggested skill training for the next chapter are:
Cloaking L4 (or 5) Transport Ships L5
While we are working on those start to think about which ship you prefer as that will involve an L5 skill as your choice of a racial Industrial. As we become blockade runners, cheers.
=============================================== Chapter 9 : Hauling Assets - Low Security Blockade Runner ===============================================
And finally the next, long awaited and fan anticipated Chapter: Hauling Assets!
If you have been following along with this training series and have all of your Navigational Skills maxed at L5, this is going to be simple.
Keeping true to my race I have selected the Minmatar Prowler.
At times when you simply must go into low security space to haul something, such as when you found a great deal in .04 or perhaps when running a COSMOS mission that was not listed as Low Sec only to find out that it IS, and you HAVE to complete it, here's a cloaky fit to get the job done, and the skills you will need.
THE LOW SEC PROWLER BLOCKADE RUNNER
1) Prowler
2) Rigs; (2) Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I Requires; Mechanics L3 Jury Rigging L3 Astronautics Rigging L1
3) Lows: (2) Nanofiber Internal Structure II Requires; Mechanics L1 Hull Upgrades L2
4) Mids ; (Shields and MWD) 2x Adaptive Invulnerability Field II & Experimental 10MN MicroWarpDrive I Requires; Powergrid Management L3 Tactical Shield Manipulation L4 (Our maxed Navigational skills give us access to ANY and all Engines)
5) High Slots: 'Smokescreen' Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Requires; CPU Management L4 Cloaking L4
Using a ship of this type should not be more than 1-2 days away from this training, as close to instant gratification as you can get, and it is highly suggested that you learn to fly it in High Security first. Learn how and when to cloak from gates and then you should be good to sneak in and out of Low Security space with no problems. Have no fear, New Eden is large and there's not often a gate camp from .5 to .4. But if there is this should leave you fast enough.
No ship, skill nor fitting will ever be better than a pilot's true ability to fly any ship. Yet this should provide you a way to haul assets in and out of low security, fast as hell!
Next Chapter coming in a few weeks and it will be a surprise for us both as I am not certain of exactly what it will be. It might be on High Sec transport ships, or even Freighters. As 2013 draws to a close the final Chapter will be "The Perfect Drake" as promised for the last year and a half.
Until the next Chapter, fly safe and have fun.
Eggs Ackley wrote:Why Smokescreen cloak? You planning on targeting someone?
Good question. I already had one from a mission so just tossed it on there. As far as targeting someone, yes. I was contemplating adding a salvager to the open high slot just for when the opportunity arises, yet instead I think I'm going to add a 220mm Vulcan Autocannon II instead. So that if I do get caught by perhaps a smaller covert ops ship at a gate or something, might actually stand a chance of popping him (or her) ....
Well thanks for the vote of confidence. Leaving High Speed Maneuvering at IV was not to save 300k and a 5% slower training time of an LV skill is not time efficient enough to to matter, in fact it's counter productive time wise. Hopefully everyone knows you should never transport a PLEX and Transport Ships LV is most certainly required to complete the next chapter. Chapters have almost always given suggestions for faster trainers to start ahead with the next, and thanks for your first advice in the last year and a half.
Nanatoa wrote:O yes I am looking forward to it already! From having High Speed Maneuvering at IV instead of V making you 5% slower to training a Rank 2 skill to V to save 300k ISK in broker fees to fitting an Expanded Cargohold to move PLEX to advising Transport Ships V even though there's no benefit whatsoever for the purpose it was advised for. And that all is from page 3 alone! This thread delivers :) |
=============================================== Chapter 10 : Hauling Large Assets Tag ===============================================
Thanks to the fans and friends that have followed along over the years. This book is coming to an end fast.
So we got bored with being able to transport via a fast blockade runner right?
As a final Chapter I will say that I trained up for Fenrir.
Chapter 10 will be coming soon as well as the final Chapter 11, The Perfect Drake.
======================================================== Chapter 10 : Hauling Large Assets Part 2 - Freighters & Jump Freighters ========================================================
One of the most frequent questions people ask of me regarding ships in EVE is "What's the largest ship you can fly?" My standard answer without trying to be a smart ass is "For what purpose?"
So in previous chapters we have mastered transport ships and blockade runners. The ability to move large amounts of cargo safely in Hi-Sec (without Auto-Pilot) and relatively safely in low sec with a trigger finger and proper use of cloaking at gates.
Now let's get into the really big ships. For the purpose of hauling huge amounts of assets. These ships can carry (off the top of my head) a dozen Battleships. Running out of cargo space can be hard. And they are slow.
Freighters: Due to the fact that I am Minmatar I went with the FENRIR. If you have followed this training book these are the only additional skills that you will need to pilot a Fenrir;
Advanced Spaceship Command L5 Minmatar Freighter L1 (I took it up to L4)
No fittings required. All previous skills we have trained do provide for a solid L4 mastery of the Fenrir, with L5 mastery only requiring Shield Management at L5 (I am currently at L4). Those 20 days of training to me are not needed for just a 5% shield boost.
And of course with many things in New Eden, once you get off in a certain direction there's almost always something even better not far out of reach.
Jump Freighters: The NOMAD is the Tech II variant of the FENRIR. So if we can now haul large assets in a Fenrir, why no go the next step?
Here are the only additional skills you will need to train to pilot the NOMAD Jump Freighter;
Jump Drive Operation L5 Jump Drive Calibration L1 (Taking to L3 at present) Industry L5 I also added: Jump Fuel Conservation L3 (Not required)
So, how do you use the Jump Drive with your shiny new 6+ Billion ISK NOMAD? I have no idea. But I can pilot one. :)
Stay turned for the next and final Chapter 11 : The Perfect Drake (with a surprising twist)
Happy Contrails!
============================= Chapter 11 : The Perfect Drake : Intro =============================
Piloting the "Perfect Drake" is actually way more time consuming where skill training is concerned than what one may think.
As the promised "twist" we are going to cover the skills not only to pilot the standard issue Drake yet the Navy Issue and the Tier II Command Ship now using the Drake hull; The Nighthawk.
As this is a training guide for skills I am not going to go into fittings much other than mentioning my favorite set up for a Drake Navy Issue for solo L3 Mission running;
For rigging I normally use;
2x Medium Defense Field Purger I 1x Medium Bay Loading Accelerator I
Damage;
8x Heavy Missile Launcher II
Lows with a pair of Shield Power Relay II and pair of Ballistic Control System II's.
For shields I use; EM, Kinetic, Explosive and Thermic Dissipation Amplifiers II. Passive fit.
The next phases of training are going to take anywhere from 82 more days of training to a whopping 581 days.
Yes you read that correct.
Let's get Weapon Upgrades to LV.
Detailed chapter coming soon.
======================== Chapter 11 : The Perfect Drake ========================
Skilling up to the "Perfect" Drake can take up to just shy of two years with Level V implants. An online guide now seems a tad out of date as CCP has introduced the Mastery tab
for each ship under the Info link. This feature did not exist when I started writing this guide so for the sake of completion, here we have the skills needed for a perfect
mission running Drake. Something more realistic would be Level IV completion which takes about 6 months (I am 6 weeks away from it and might include the list at a later date).
